Saturday 15th August – Departure day
Another great session here in Verbier!
Kids are exited and sad to leave at the same time. It has been amazing to have so much fun. We have overcome some great challenges, learned important lessons but most of all we have had made strong friendships over last couple of weeks!
We will miss you all and wish you a great rest of summer!

Friday 14th August 2015 – Lake, Ropes course, Bridge swinging, Prize giving
Day started great! All kids were so exited to spend their last day on camp doing great activities all together with their group mates.
Discovery and Explorer kids went to Lake and had so much fun playing games, swimming, doing banana boating, kayaking and stand up paddling. After the Lake the explorers went to the ropes course in where they took on various high ropes courses and zip lines.
Pioneers had amazing activity- Bridge swinging, so much fun and adrenaline – kids loved it! After it was time to relax in Bains De Lavey – enjoy saunas, swimming pools, lazy river and water fountains.
But the main event of the day was Prize Giving which took place straight after dinner. All the groups gathered in the big Les Elfes chalet and the monitors put on a show for them. Various awards were given for the competitions and activities that took place during the week, like the Olympic Games, the sports tournaments and the clubs competitions. From every group a star camper was awarded the highest prize for best representing the core Les Elfes values.
After the prizes where given out and the monitors made their speeches everybody headed down to the cinema room to get their sports and languages certificates and watch the videos and slideshows the staff had prepared for them.
Now everybody is saying goodbye and getting ready to got bed as most of the campers are traveling tomorrow.
Keep checking are Facebook page for more updates.
Thursday 13th August – Baritan BBQ, Climbing, Mini Golf, and Biking/Trotinette
The students jumped out of bed this morning, many of them realising they had to make the most of their last couple of days at camp!
After morning languages, all the groups took the gondola up Savoleyres mountain to have a picturesque BBQ atop the mountain at Les Elfes’ very own mountain hut. After a feast fit for an army, they digested while taking the cable car back down before starting the afternoon activities.
The Discovery group did a mix of mountain biking, rock climbing and mini golf – all in and around Verbier town. The Explorers also went rock climbing and mini golfing so the two groups had the chance to spend a bit more time together and had a great time.
The Pioneer group took on the challenge of trottinetting that the Explorers did yesterday. It was a great adrenaline fueled ride down the mountain with a couple of tumbles but nothing serious! Everyone came home sweaty and dirty and having had a brilliant day of fun, yet again.
Although dinner at camp was a traditional Swiss Cheese Fondue, some students opted to go for a ‘Dine Out’ at some of Verbier’s most popular restaurants – Pergola and Chez Martin. After dinner, the discovery group played the team challenge game, La Fureur, while the Explorers and Pioneers who didn’t go for a dine out, had great fun at Casino Night! They learnt how to play some of the classic casino games like Poker, Black Jack and Roulette, and you can be sure they learnt how to place their bets intelligently as their were chocolate prizes for the biggest winners!
Another great day at camp, and just one more left in the session! Time to get some Zzzzz’s…
Wednesday 12th August – Ropes Course, Mountain Biking and Lake Day!
Back to the morning of languages at camp today, but with blue skies yet again it was a good day to go down to the lake, up to the mountains and into the forest.
The Discovery group head for an afternoon of whizzing around the trees at the ropes course. This is a great activity to inspire children’s sense of adventure and build their confidence, teamwork and communication skills.
The explorers went up the mountain, with half the group going mountain biking to the top of Savoleyres mountain for a snack at the Croix-De-Coeur restaurant, and the other half taking on the challenge of Trottinetting – a cross between a scooter and a mountain bike with no seat!
The Pioneers were able to cool off at the lake by going Kayaking and paddle boarding before playing some team games. They were definitely glad to be by the water on such a blazing hot day!
After a pasta dinner at camp, all the groups where chauffeured up to the very exclusive W Hotel Verbier for one of the most anticipated nights of the camp – The Disco! With 2 of the Explorer students DJing all the most requested tunes, everyone danced their socks off and had a bit of trouble calming down to get to bed, but eventually did, still buzzing but tired from another jam packed day at Les Elfes.
Tuesday 11th August – Excursion Day!
Everyone woke up excited about going out and about around Switzerland today! The discovery group first headed to Servion Zoo, where they walked around seeing the great species of animals and answering their language quiz sheets with questions about the zoo and the animals. After a picnic lunch they headed to the charming town of Montreux for a spot of shopping, and a cheeky burger or ice cream before taking the bus back to Verbier. their night activity was a leisurely torchlight walk near the campus with some cupcakes to finish the night off!
The Explorers went for the classic Swiss-themed excursion day. First came the Cheese Factory in Gruyere, where the cheese of the same name originates. They then moved on to the nearby Cailler Chocolate Factory – always a favourite tour here at Les Elfes for the great installations and free tasting of all their chocolates at the end! The ended the day with a cheeky bit of shopping near the lake in Vevey.
The pioneers, had a very similar day except that they first went to the chocolate factory, then the cheese factory, and finally went shopping in the slightly bigger and far more hilly but equally bustling town of Lausanne.
For returning students or those who have been here a few weeks already, there was the option of going to Aosta, across the border and through the tunnel in Italy! They had a great day visiting the picturesque valley and ancient Roman settlements, including a hike, picnic lunch, and stroll the more modern part of town.
Monday 10th August – Indoor Activities, Careers Day, First Aid and MtFort Hike
Today most of Discovery group stayed at camp, taking part in a series of creative activities. Starting with arts and crafts, they then took a special theatre class before a big favourite – baking! Not only did the students create some incredibly tasty and shop window-worthy cupcakes, but they even created companies and names for their cupcakes to pitch their ideas to the judges. Quite the entrepreneurs! A favourite among the judges was none other than the polar bear cup cakes. Bravo!
The Explorers had a mentally challenging and teamwork-oriented afternoon, as they took part in a special leadership seminar run by two professional workshop organisers from Holland. they were focused throughout, and worked together to find ideas and solutions to the various challenges they were presented with. Parents – ask your children about everything they learnt!
A group of the Pioneers took part in a very special mountain first aid course. Hiking up, they learnt about all the various first and CPR techniques with a twist on mountain-specific aspects. You never know when first aid comes in handy, so hats off to those who chose to spend the day learning these very import_ant skills.
As an optional activity, returning students from all groups were able to choose the option of going up the mountain for a hike to Mont Fort. It was great to get above the clouds, see some breathtaking views and throw loads of snowballs (mostly aimed at instructor, Alessio…)
A special ‘bravo’ to all the students for their extra effort to focus, on quite a studious day where hopefully everyone learned something new.
Sunday 9th August – Treasure Hunt, Olympic Games, Mountain Biking and Music Video!
Today was a big action day! Following language lessons in the morning and a well deserved lunch, the groups split into their various afternoon activities.
The Discovery group got to become hunters… Treasure Hunters that is… as they all got involved in a massive treasure hunt on campus! They were given photos taken by the monitors somewhere on camp and working in teams, had to find where the photos were taken. Those who uncovered the secret spots won some chocolates which they shared with their groups. They then managed to squeeze in a spot of Ice Skating at the local rink just a few minutes walk from camp.
After having visited the Olympic museum on excursion day, the Explorers got the chance to themselves become Olympians by taking part in Les Elfes’ very own Olympic Games!
Over a full afternoon, the group was split into 4 teams and participated in 8 events such as obstacle courses, ball games and tagging games. It was a great success with everyone finishing the afternoon tired, sweaty and muddy.
The Pioneers group went for an adrenaline adventure by going mountain biking! Not always an easy activity especially with slightly damp/foggy conditions, the Pioneers had an absolute blast and looked like pros on the bikes!
The evening activity was a Les Elfes classic – Music Video! All the groups mixed together, were split into groups, and recorded a self-made choreography to a part of the Outkast Song, ‘Heya’. We’ll show them the finished music video on Friday at the prize presentation!
Saturday 8th August – International Day
International Day is quite an import_ant one here at Les Elfes. It is one when we pride ourselves on bringing together young people from all over the world, but more import_antly when we really try and open the students’ hearts and minds to being grateful of being in such a special, multi-cultural environment; and of course, interested in their new friends’ countries and cultures.
The students get into groups with peers from the same country, research and brainstorm interesting facts about their countries and cultures, and create posters to present to the rest of the group. It was great to see the effort everyone put in to proudly sharing their facts and culture, and to see the interest their friends took in learning.
After dinner, everyone had a choice of activities for what we call ‘Clubs Night’. The students participated in Music, Photography, Baking, Design and Build, Acting and Arts and Crafts Clubs.
Another jam packed day with a special twist on the multi-cultural world we live in these days!
Thursday 6th – Action Day!
After a well deserved night of sound sleep, all the groups were re-energized and ready for a morning of language lessons and an action packed afternoon.
Most of the Discovery students went rock climbing, but a small group with a particular talent for mountain biking, cycled all the way down to Le Chable! Of course, what climbs up must come down, and what goes down must…get the cable car back to Verbier.
The Explorers had a sporty afternoon, with 4 groups rotating between Football, Basketball, Tennis and Golf sessions. This made everyone incredibly sweaty and tired so more than half the group went to cool off in the crispy fresh Verbier pool during free time!
The Pioneers headed to the ropes course in Fully, enjoying the feeling of being up in the trees like true teenagers of the forests. After free time, all the groups came back together at camp before being driven up to Le Hatey for a picturesque Sunset BBQ. Everyone could have easily stayed to fall asleep under the stars, but a good 1 hour torchlight walk downhill made sure everyone spent their last reserves of energy for the day before hitting the hay at base camp.
Wednesday 5th August – Lake Games, Ropes Course, Back to Verbier and Movie Night
Waking up early in Crans Montana, the discovery campers all helped out to prepare a big buffet breakfast for everyone to get their energy boost to start the day. After a hike to Crans Montana lake, they stopped at a playground and had a cheeky ice cream. Then it was back on the bus to Verbier, home base. With the sun beaming, everyone hit the pool to cool off along with a game of volleyball. Those who didn’t swim had a quick visit to Verbier’s local history museum in Le Hameau, before coming back for dinner and pyjama party! The Les Elfes 2 dining room was filled with cushions and blankets, and a big screen setup to watch the Lego Movie.
Meanwhile, the Explorers were waking up again to blue skies, then packing up their campsite after enjoying an ‘al fresco’ breakfast. They were off on adventures before no time again, exploring the canopy of the forest at the ropes course in Fully. Eventually they made their way back to Verbier as well, and enjoyed some freetime in the usual fashion – some swimming, some shopping, and some having a rest on campus (or jumping on the trampoline…how on earth they have this much energy we will never know…).
The Pioneers also spent a couple of hours enjoying breakfast and packing up their campsite, before heading to the lake to pick up where they left off with more team games and kayaking. Exhausted but satisfied, after lunch and even more team building challenges, they made their way back to Verbier.
After free time and dinner they joined the Explorers in the cinema room to watch an exciting action movie which is reported, took at least 15 minutes to choose due to no one being able to agree on a good suggestion…classic story! A well deserved mellow night after all the adventures of the last couple of days.
Tuesday 4th August – Camping and Crans Montana
Another glorious day in the Swiss Alps, with bluebird skies and a slight breeze to keep things fresh…
After the usual morning language classes and lunch at Les Elfes, the Discovery students began the journey over to the Crans Montana campus. They swung and zipped around the ropes course for the rest of the afternoon, before eventually heading back to camp for dinner and a special treat – a campfire marshmellow session! Yum
The Explorers spent the afternoon in Bonatchiesse, a camping ground where they learnt how to setup tents and tipis that they would then sleep in that night. After a humongous specialized game of hide & seek (hunting for monitors), it was bed time. The weather held out although a few people did find it colder than their beds back at camp! Everyone had a good night’s rest and enjoyed the camping experience, especially in the tipis.
And finally, the Pioneer group had a similar camping experience at night, although they set up regular tents to spend the night in and played some campfire games before bed. They slept very well, which made sense considering they had been playing team games and paddling around the lake on kayaks most of the afternoon! With such good weather, who could ask for a better place to be to cool off!
Monday 3rd August- theme park, lake day and rock climbing
Sunday 2nd August – La Tzoumaz hike and arrival day
Saturday 1st August – Swiss National Day
Happy Birthday Switzerland ! Although many of students were leaving today, the few who were staying on for the next session got to see the town of Verbier alive with festivities ! Walking through the town on their way down to Le Chable for the circus, the students enjoyed a few local snacks and stalls selling Swiss Products.
The circus in Le Chable was a real treat, as it doesn`t come very often in these parts of Switzerland. There many acts involving clowns and acrobats – impressive and entertaining for all ! Afterwards, the group made it onto the last gondola`s back up to Verbier for a tasty traditional Swiss raclette cheese dinner ! And to wind down before bed, everyone got involved in making Swiss inspired posters to decorate Les Elfes dining room !
Friday 31st July – lake day, ropes course, bridge swinging, bubble football and prize giving
Friday 7th August – Excursion Day
Excursion day is always lots of fun – seeing new places, experiencing things that make Switzerland famous, and buying a few souvenirs to take home!
The discovery students visited the Cailler chocolate factory (even if you dont’ like chocolate it is an awesome tour!), and then the Cheese Factory before splashing out on some shopping in Vevey.
The Explorers went to Lausanne to visit the Olympic Museum. Lausanne is home of the International Olympic Committee, so the museum is not only interesting but very interactive. You can spend hours taking fun photos, reading about the history of the Olympics and testing the sporting simulators! The group also then went for a spot of shopping in town.
The pioneer group went a little further, 2hours drive, to Geneva. They visited the United Nations on very informative and eye opening tour, before having lunch by the famous ‘Jet D’eau’ water feature on Lac Leman – a huge jet of water on the lake. Of course, they also then went for a quick shop before making the journey back to Verbier.
For students who had already been on excursion the previous week, they had the option of going to nearby mountain resort, Chamonix Mont Blanc in France. The highlight was definitely visiting the magical Ice Palace on the Mont Blanc Glacier, before their own stroll around their shops in town.
With all the groups back on camp, around half of the Explorer and Pioneer groups went for an optional ‘Dine Out’ evening to restaurants in town. The others stayed on campus for dinner followed by a choice of baking or fun outdoor team games.
A very long but equally fun day!

Today we welcomed the students for our first arrival day of the summer. The students have traveled from all over the world to join us for the first session of the summer.
Upon arrival they checked in to their new rooms, they then proceeded to participate in team games and group activities to get to know the each other and all the monitors that would be working with them. After team games the students then went on a guided tour around Verbier with a quiz from the monitors, ensuring the students know the surrounding area.
A little later the students all received a welcome speech from the resort manager explaining the rules of the campus. From there everyone then split into their groups and had a meeting with the group leaders, assistant leaders and monitors from their group followed by some team games and a guided tour around the campus.
Throughout the day everybody had spent plenty of time to ge to know each other and their beautiful surroundings, all of the students were very tired from travelling all day and many were really tired and went to bed early, being very exited for tomorrows activities.
